Chapter 10:
It
is important for all students to have resources available to them to make them
successful learners. The technology available to students of all cultures has
really made a difference in students understanding of content. I have had the
opportunity to visit the ELL class in the school that I student teach at and
the use of technology is so beneficial. Students are able to use their home
language on technology and it really makes a difference in their understanding
and confidence. There are so many types of online resources for students of all
languages and this chapter does a great job of informing teachers with
resources they can use in the classroom. Handheld spellers and dictionaries
could be so beneficial for classroom instruction and could all help students
learn new words and their definitions. This not only shows students the words
and definitions but the students can also listen to the words aloud. All
students should have confidence and never feel behind in school based on their
language struggles. These technological resources can really make a difference
for students and their growth as learners.

Chapter 3 Strategy 12-15:
Strategies 12, 13, 14, and 15
discuss finding ways to support students with special needs. Finding a way to
accommodate those students with alternative methods, a Universal Design for
Learning to give all students to have an equal opportunity to learn the
information in the classroom is very important for the students’ growth. There
are many different modifications that could be made that are discussed in
strategies 12, 13, 14, and 15 that could be very beneficial for the students
such as read- aloud testing. There are many students who are unable to focus on
an assignment on their own but by being able to listen to it they are able to
think clearly and understand the content better. This can be done using
podcasts of the tests. I think that this could be super helpful for students
who struggle to read and grasp the information written down. Teachers could record
themselves saying the test and then the students are able to listen to that
recording as they are taking the test. Also giving students with disabilities
the opportunity to use technology to learn on a daily basis. This is possible
with Accessible Educational Materials, such as using the I-Pad to use
educational apps to improve the students learning. From my own experience
student teaching in a second grade class I have seen the impact of technology
in the classroom. There are a few students in my class with IEPs who have
difficulty understanding information written down but we are able to see improvement
in their understanding when they use the I-Pad to listen to audio recordings
and videos. It is so important for teachers to use an abundance of resources to
enhance their students’ comprehension.
Hi Brianna,
ReplyDeleteI loved how you mentioned the following: "All students should have confidence and never feel behind in school based on their language struggles. These technological resources can really make a difference for students and their growth as learners." I also liked how you carried that same sentiment for when you were speaking about the students with IEPs in your classroom. Technology is definitely one way to level the so-called "playing field" within the classroom; it is one solution for the gaps and divides in the educational experiences of our students, and I thought you did a wonderful job of convey that your throughout your post.

I agree that the use of accessible educational materials such as an I-Pad is useful for students, especially those with learning needs. One of my students use the I-Pad to read the class reading book, Wonder. She is able to play a automated voiceover to hear the book or highlight key words or phrases in different colors. The text is zoomed in for her which is beneficial since she has visual impairment.
